Yielding Slumber

24 inches x 24 inches

acrylic, charcoal, paper & ink on canvas (framed)

Have you ever drifted off to sleep in a complete yield to the things that you faced that day? Drifting off to sleep in full surrender to the act that you are flesh, you are human, and you are perfectly incapable of so much. You cannot white knuckle, or will yourself more days than you’re given.

In this very human thing of rest, divinity swirls overhead touching down, dancing, maybe just healing our bodies, or maybe the healing of a wooed heart that longs to touch the Light. We wake up from an earthly slumber and feel as though we slept in the high places, we transcended to the warmest embrace. Our spirit had cried out, our soul had thrown up the white flag of surrender - and the Divine dance ensued over our earthly bodies. We were caught up into the heavens for a night of rest. Rest from our weary souls was ours, so wholly ours for a moment.

This piece was exhibited at Place & Art in Englewood, Colorado in 2024, and it was one of several pieces that expressed the moments in my life where the veil between now and eternity have felt thin - moments of transcendence into God’s presence.
