the loss that we feel in our bones

This piece was an accidental masterpiece for a tired heart.

I was playing with new materials and tools trying to make some unique marks. It was originally oriented vertically, but when I turned it horizontally to play some more - I gasped at what I saw. Knowing the sonogram machine well, I saw a sonogram right there on the page, then right above I saw the heart beat monitor. I could not believe it.

I had created a piece that would mark me and my miscarriage journey, and the journey of many women. This piece was purchased from a friend in Africa as a gift to her friend in Maryland. It was framed, packaged, shipped to the east coast, and prayed over.

The gift was sent to a woman in the throws of infertility, and it said to her, “I see you.”

I was pretty much in a puddle of a mess when I understood how this painting was going to be used in the life of another woman.
