Sue, Durrelle, and Jane

These three women were legends in their own ways.
They were sisters, and had one baby brother, Basil. Jane (the youngest of the girls) is my husband’s grandmother, and my daughter’s namesake. She was a Texas woman that was never without her colorful wardrobe, her big jewelry, or her love of manners. The real magic of Jane was the sisterhood she existed in. I will never forget the time I saw the three of them together at a family wedding. They were just a gaggle of girls - seemingly untouched by time in the way they enjoyed one another. They had a fierce love for one another. I painted these abstract flowers as a way to remember these three. Durrelle is still living a vibrant and meaningful life in her 90s.
