“Dear One, the Sun rises as you rise. “
I never paint with a plan in mind for the canvas. Part of the joy-ride (see About the Artist) for me in becoming an artist was and is the freedom of expression as it comes. However, I often center my thoughts, prayers, or imagination on an idea or theme and then let it flow from my soul to the brush.
As I sat down to create this piece for Permission to Matter, I had all the women in mind that would take this book into their own hands. I played loud music, danced, and let myself fill up with gratitude for my own journey, and all the journeys that were “not yet”. I wanted my color palette to feel alive and vibrant - to radiate hope. Hope was important to me because the path laid before the reader may not be easy, or smooth - but worth it. In the moments of tension or discomfort, my hope is that women will close their book, breathe, and come back to this cover. My heart hopes that they feast their eyes on this bright sun rising and know in their bones, that as they wake up, and step towards their true Self in God, that there will be a kind of rebirth that radiates light to others. As they rise, there will be a kind of God warmth and rays of light for others to sit under, feel, and inspire their own journey of waking up.
“…there will be a kind of rebirth that radiates light to others.”
